Start at Schrier Park at W 850 Osterhout Road in Portage MI.
Park in the main lot, and go to the map
located near the trail head. Remember that “NO BIKES” are allowed! As you
follow the paved path towards the bog, you will soon face your first
What to do? Consult the Book of Armaments! Brother Maynard can refer you to
a relevant chapter. He’s not very good with directions so you should
multiply his answer by eight to get the appropriate bearing. Follow this
trail and note which direction you have turned. As you follow this path, the
path will split a few more times. At each of the next few possible
deviations, choose as you did when following Brother Maynard’s original
advice (At one of these turns it is possible that Brother Maynard got into
the sacramental wine, you can ignore him that one time!).
When you are finally tempted by more than two options, ignore the choices
and continue straight as your footing changes. Are all these downed tress
from a killer rabbit which lurks nearby?
Further along the trail, you will find another map. Go over to it, and then
take the trail at 240 degrees away from this sign. Continue on your quest.
When at last this current wood-chip trail ends, consult Brother Maynard one
last time. Pay attention to the number of verses he thinks are pertinent to
the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. Retrace your path (from the end of the
chips) and take one pace for each verse. Search for your “base” for the
final assault on the rabbit at a reading of 55 degrees from the nearest
post. Go to it (the shortest route might not be the easiest), and you will
find the grenade. Offer the prayer, “Oh Lord Bless This Hand Grenade” as you
spy what might be the rabbit’s lair at 130 degrees!
