If the string comes off, turn of the power right away! Then just re-attach the string to the motor.
To
get nice waves to form, as the string is spinning, slowly move the arms holding
the motors away from each other so the string becomes tight, then bring them
slowly back together. Trying this again and again may produce different numbers of
waves. It is easy to get 5 waves. Try to get more or fewer waves. The current record is 8 waves!
Sometimes if you let the string spin haphazardly, multiple waves will add together and form a steady combined wave. What do you think causes the “non-steady” waves?
A fun thing to do once you have a steady wave is to trace out the wave with your finger by passing it over the string as it is spinning.
